What you can do to help
- Save the date for Eckington Day on October 2, 2021 from 10 am to 4pm! What we’re planning:
- Activities for folks of all ages, including art projects, yoga, music & more
- Tables from local businesses, organizations and representatives where you can learn more about all that Eckington has to offer!
- Please please sign up here if you would like to volunteer to help us on the day of the event or if your organization would like to host a table or activity. The more the merrier!
ECA Updates
- FY 22 Budget updates
- Our understanding is that major priorities remain funded (Harry Thomas Rec Center, Eckington/Edgewood/Stronghold Library, study of North Capitol Street)
- CM McDuffie has secured funding for two additional items of note for Eckington:
- An irrigation system for the field at Harry Thomas Recreation Center; and
- A Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) clean team for Eckington that would help address persistent litter and trash pickup issues in the neighborhood.
- Reimagining North Capitol Street
- Nick Sementelli and Conor Shaw gave a presentation (now available on our website) of an alternative vision for the corridor from Michigan Avenue to Massachusetts Avenue.
- The vision includes restoring the corridor to street level, reconnecting east-west streets, improving pedestrian accessibility and bus reliability, and addressing congestion and pollution.
- The vision also includes the addition of park space along the corridor, including a signature community park at the intersection of North Capitol Street, Lincoln Rd., Q street, and Quincy Place.
- This proposal is distinct from the North Capitol Street Deckover proposal
- Nick and Conor welcome your questions and feedback. You can reach them via email at ward5forall@gmail.com and conormarcusshaw@gmail.com
- Joint presentation of the deckover proposal and this proposal is scheduled to take place on September 15, 2021. Meeting details to follow.
